LITTLETON, CO, AUGUST 20, 2008 -Denver Seminary's Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Pastor Gordon MacDonald to serve as interim president. Pastor MacDonald is known around the world as a speaker, author, pastor and advisor. As an alumnus of Denver Seminary, MacDonald was deeply influenced by the seminary's Chancellor Dr. Vernon C. Grounds. In following Dr. Grounds' example, MacDonald and his wife Gail, who is also an author, have a passion for investing their lives in others and in mentoring leaders.
Denver Seminary Board Chair Bill Ward comments, "From a life of distinguished service, Gordon MacDonald brings vision, wisdom and excitement for ministry. We praise and thank God for this blessing. We look forward with great anticipation to Gordon's leadership during this time at Denver Seminary."
Vernon Grounds, who was a mentor to MacDonald, adds, "I have known Gordon MacDonald from his childhood through his seminary years, his pastorates and his global ministry. What a blessing it will be to have this gifted alumnus as the seminary's interim president."
In conjunction with this announcement, Denver Seminary's Board is also pleased to announce that Dr. Randy MacFarland has accepted the appointment of Provost/Dean. This is a new position, created for the interim period until the arrival of a president. In this capacity, MacFarland will have the responsibility for the day-to-day internal operations of the Seminary; the vice presidents of each operating department will report to him. MacDonald and MacFarland will work in partnership respecting the guidance and governance of the Board of Trustees.
To this appointment, Ward states, "Randy MacFarland is a known and respected leader at Denver Seminary having served capably as VP/Dean. He is a pastor, a teacher, a mentor and a servant with an incredible heart for the Lord. Again, we are praising and thanking God for the blessing of his leadership in our midst. Together, these two men will make a formidable leadership team for this interim period."
