Multiple Locations: Teach For America Corps Member at Teach For America

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates and working professionals - of all academic majors, backgrounds and career interests - who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders for expanding educational opportunity for all children.

Each year, Teach For America selects a diverse corps of individuals who have the skills and commitment to make a real impact on the academic prospects of students growing up today in low-income communities, and to exert long term leadership in the effort to eliminate educational inequity.

Teach For America trains all corps members during a pre-service summer training program; places them as teachers with full salary and benefits in urban and rural public schools; and continues to support them through a two-year professional development program to ensure their success as teachers and beyond.

As a Teach For America corps member, you will:
•	Take on an intense personal challenge to address our nation’s greatest injustice.
•	Set an ambitious vision of students’ academic success and invest students and their families in working hard toward the vision.
•	Plan purposefully, execute effectively, and work relentlessly to ensure that students growing up in our country’s lowest income communities are given the educational opportunity they deserve.
•	Develop leadership, communication and problem solving skills, while bolstering inner strength and self-awareness.
•	Develop lasting relationships and build a network of colleagues and friends that will provide you with support both during your corps experience and for many years to come.

Qualifications and Prerequisites
•	Demonstrated past achievement, i.e. achieving ambitious, measurable results in academics, extracurricular, and/or work leadership.
•	Evidence of perseverance in the face of challenges.
•	Strong critical thinking skills, i.e. making accurate linkages between cause and effect and generating relevant solutions to problems.
•	Proven ability to influence and motivate others.
•	Organizational ability, i.e. planning well, meeting deadlines, and working efficiently.
•	Bachelor's degree by June 2009 with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
•	High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate.
•	Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States; international students, please visit http://www.teachforamerica.org/international_students.
•	Candidates of all backgrounds, academic majors and career interests encouraged to apply.
•	No educational coursework or certification required.

Positions/ Locations

•	Corps members placed in both elementary and secondary positions
•	2009 locations: We currently place corps members in 29 regions across the country. Urban sites include Atlanta, Baltimore, the Bay Area, Charlotte, Chicago, Connecticut, Denver, Greater Philadelphia-Camden, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Memphis, Metro D.C., Newark, New York City, Phoenix, and St. Louis. Rural sites include Eastern North Carolina, Hawai'i, the Mississippi Delta (in Arkansas and Mississippi), New Mexico, the Rio Grande Valley, South Dakota, and South Louisiana. Three of our sites have both urban and rural placements: Greater New Orleans, the Las Vegas Valley, and Miami-Dade.

Those applicants who are invited to an interview indicate their preferences for regional sites, grade levels, and subject areas. Teach For America works to meet these preferences while balancing school districts' needs and considering district and state requirements.

Benefits
•	Full salary: $27,000 to $47,000, depending on region; full health benefits.
•	Teach For America offers no-interest loans and transitional grants ranging from $1,000 - $6,000. Packages, based upon demonstrated need, help corps members cover moving and start-up expenses in their new regions.
•	Summer training institute room and board paid for by Teach For America.
•	Corps members may be eligible to receive loan forbearance and interest payment on qualified student loans as well as an education award of $4,725 at the end of each year of service (a total of $9,450)*.

*While Teach For America is currently a part of AmeriCorps, we cannot guarantee these benefits for the 2009 corps given the nature of the AmeriCorps competitive grant process and the dependence on Congressional funding cycles. Teach For America anticipates receiving final confirmation on education awards for next year in spring 2009.
