Alumnus Appointed Assistant Dean for Preaching and Pastoral Studies

After serving as Acting Assistant Dean at Southwester Baptist Theological Seminary, Richard Thomas Vann Jr., (a.k.a. Tommy) has been appointed Assistant Dean for Preaching and Pastoral Studies, School of Theology. A 1978 graduate of Denver Seminary, Vann has been a pastor, college professor and administrator, and military chaplain since 1971. In 2004 Vann retired from the United States Army with the rank of Colonel. Since 2004 he has served as Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministry at Southwestern. Van is married to the former Marta Lucile Atwell of Rancho Cordova, California. They have six children.

Alumnus starts new church in Burlington, Iowa

Denver Seminary alumnus, Jason Unzicker (MA, '02) is getting ready to launch a new church in Burlington, Iowa. The first community church (in title) in the area, Crossroads Community Church while the church is for all ages, they will target the younger generations who are not as connected to church as their parents or grandparents.

Alumnus brings "green" message to Colorado Springs

Vice President of the National Association of Evangelicals and Denver Seminary alumnus, Richard Cizik (MDiv, '80) is featured in the Colorado Springs Independent Newspaper today. Cizik will be bringing his message of "creation care" and the fight against global warming to Colorado Springs next week.

Alumnus David Hyams Joins Idaho Law Firm

Attorney David Hyams (MA '03) has joined the Boise, Idaho office of Holland & Hart LLP. Hyams is an associate in the firm's litigation department. He interned for Chief Judge Larry J. Naves of the Second Judicial District of Colorado, at a legal aid clinic and clerked at Arckey & Reha LLC for more than two years, gaining experience in employment and business issues. Hyams earned his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He also earned a master's in philosophy from Georgia State University and a master's in philosophy of religion from Denver Seminary. He received his bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Colorado State University.

Alumnus Publishes Article in Chaplaincy E-Newsletter

D.Min. Grad Now Serves as Dean of Seminary in the Philippines

The Very Reverend Dr. Patrick Tanhuanco has been named Dean (President) of St. Andrew's Theological Seminary in the Philippines. St. Andrews is the premier and only Anglican-Epispocal Seminary in the Philippines. Dr. Tanhuanco graduated from Denver Seminary with his Doctor of Ministry degree in May, 2002.

Alumnus Receives Award

Toccoa Falls College awarded Gary Elkins (MA '82) the 2007-2008 Wade Distinguished Scholar of the Year Award. Gary was also awarded a full scholarship this year to pursue an MA in Bioethics at Trinity Graduate School. This summer he is scheduled to present a paper titled "Rethinking Religious Epistemology" at the World Congress of Philosophy in Seoul, S. Korea.

Graduate recognized as a Fellow in Thanatology

Graduate engaging inner-city youth with baseball

Sanders works with local African-American youth by introducing them to the game of baseball. He earned his MA in Youth and Family Ministries in 2005 and continues to serve as a mentor to current Seminary students.

Denver Seminary alumnus Richard Cizik, who serves as the Vice President for Governmental Affairs of the National Association of Evangelicals, was recently named one of Time Magazine's top 100 influential people in the world. Cizik works to bring awareness of environmental care to Christians across the country. Congratulations to alumna and adjunct faculty member, Janelle Hallman, MA, LPC. She has a new book to be released in April. It is available from Amazon.com.
