Pastor of Small Groups at Fellowship Alliance Chapel - Medford, New Jersey

Description:

Overview
In southern New Jersey, twenty-five miles east of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a dynamic church with a God-sized vision. Since it’s beginning in 1980 as a small group in the pastor’s home, Fellowship Alliance Chapel has served the community. Today their involvement and service has resulted in many changed lives and a reputation as a church that cares and meets needs. As they prepare to begin a building project that will expand their crowded facilities and parking onto more than 100 acres, it is with a commitment to serve the area through the development of spaces the surrounding communities can also use.

The Kingdom Vision Expansion Campaign asks “Can You See It?” The church family believes the promise of Isaiah 43:19 where God states, “For I am about to do a brand new thing. See I have already begun. Do you not see it?” God has blessed this vision as land has been purchased and construction plans are developed. Through many sacrificial gifts the church has put action to their faith and opened the eyes of many people inside and outside the church. As final plans are being prepared, it is apparent that Fellowship Alliance Chapel (www.faconline.org) has a big vision of a “new thing” happening in their midst. They see the future with anticipation and expectation of even greater opportunities.

Opportunity
Into this exciting environment the church is seeking a Pastor of Small Groups to deepen the large family of believers in their walk with God. To quote Senior Pastor Marty Berglund, “…our mission is clear: we want to help people know God's call on their lives, and we want to help them follow that call. To do this, we emphasize connections: Connecting to God, to His People, and to His Work.” The church emphasizes that the best way to connect to His People is through participating in a small group!

Right now, being in a small group or “mini-church,” is with the expectation of going deeper with believers in living out the “one-anothers” of the New Testament. There is accountability and spiritual nourishment in the mini-churches that is not available in the larger church services. Having the ability and passion to expand this priority for all adults at Fellowship Alliance Chapel is essential for the Pastor of Small Groups. With the weekly worship attendance at 2200 (one Saturday evening service and three Sunday morning services), there are currently 44 mini-churches. The multiplication of groups, training of new leaders, and building of an ongoing process for involvement is essential as the church continues to grow.

As this expansion and growth happens, the Small Group ministry will need to increasingly involve a higher percentage of the congregation. The Pastor of Small Groups will lead in casting that vision and effectively building this ministry. With an emphasis on personal growth, the groups will also focus on serving the needs of neighbors and the community. This is how Fellowship Alliance Chapel began twenty-eight years ago, and will continue to be the foundation upon which this church will expand.

Candidate Criteria
It is critical that the Pastor of Small Groups be experienced in how to lead and build a large small group ministry in a multi-staff environment. This person must also be an engaging leader who is effective with large audiences and in small settings. He will have strong interpersonal skills with people they have never met while also developing strong friendships. He will agree with the doctrinal beliefs of the church and their partnership with the Christian Missionary Alliance.
