You Plus God Are Enough to Lead
To lead we must ask:
“How can I use what I’ve got?” rather than
“How can I be what I’m not?”
No matter how “gifted” we are, adding that to God’s resources is a negligible addition. There is essentially no difference between the total of the “greatest” person plus God and the “lowliest” person plus God.
Without God’s help, giftedness does make a difference. But the better we become at working with God, the less difference it makes. God doesn’t need much to get the job done (he started with nothing).
- God used a mule to speak to Balaam (Num. 22:28).
- God used a dead man resurrected to win many people to Jesus (John 12:10-11).
- God uses ordinary people to make an impact.
Paul wrote,
“God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him” (1 Cor. 1:27-29 NIV).
If we work with God with what he’s given us, he will do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Eph. 3:20 NIV). You plus God are enough to lead!
